Baby Timothy won't eat...anything! He is 7 months old and all he wants is Mamma's milk. This seems very normal to me in some ways and a little worisome in others. He doesn't take a bottle, won't eat anything from a spoon, and I tried all the little tricks people suggest to no avail. Should I be worried about this? How long should kids go before they eat at least oatmeal? Would love some feedback...I am getting mixed reviews from people. My friend Jeni only nursed her son for at least a year and he is happy and healthy and I know women use to do that all the time, but I am getting mixed reviews from some pediatricians. Any thoughts you Moms???
I know you aren't suppose to compare but I just wanted to give you a rundown on how different my boys are. Last night we found Caleb eating something hard and crunchy from the carpet. We asked him what it was and he said, "I don't know!" and just went about his business as usual.
This is what Caleb had to eat ONE day last week:
two plate size blueberry pancakes
half a pint of blueberries on the side
a glass of milk
a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
2 peaches
1 apricot
1 apple
half a sweet potato
2 slices pork tenderloin
raisins
spinach salad
an ear of corn
a lot of water!
YIKES! It is a miracle he hasn't blown up his stomach yet! I had to force him to stop eating. Do you see why I am struggling with having a child who doesn't eat???

Wow... I am just amazed at all the healthy food C will eat.... TJ is fine and will eat when he is ready... I have a friend here and she always says this... he will not be going to highschool and still be doing X... so TJ will not be going to highschool and still want mommy juice... so in a nut shell it means just be patient they will do it on their own timing...
ReplyDeleteJenny, don't worry! I have also been told of people whose kids didn't eat until they were a year old, and at least one doctor told a friend of my sister-in-law that it was just fine. I have heard that solid foods before one year old are mostly just practice, anyway, and I wouldn't worry about it until TJ is a year old. By then he will most likely be interested in food, and he may even surprise you before then. Sounds like he is just not ready yet. ;-)
ReplyDeleteJustin didn't start solids until 7 months and it was a slow process. If you lived in Africa (I sound like our mothers, right?) then all you would give your baby is your milk. All three of my brothers and I went straight from nursing to solid foods at 9 months with nothing in between. Don't stress - it's easier just to nurse while chasing older sibling, right?
ReplyDeleteJude is my first to eat baby food. The others pretty much just nursed the first year with maybe a few finger foods (cut up peaches, cheerios, etc) when they were almost one. They never ate any baby cereal nor did they eat one jar of baby food. And...they are healthy as can be. So, keep doing what you're doing! :)
